Self-care Beyond Face Masks and Bubble baths
It’s officially Fall! Just as the leaves are changing colors, we’re reminded that even nature takes this time to reset and renew to sprout new life. With all that’s happened in 2020, the possibility of constant burnout is real. Have you intentionally taken time to focus on yourself for reflection and self-care?
Why self-care is important?
The Oxford dictionary defines self-care as the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress. We can all agree that we’ve been on a non-stop 7-month stress period and counting. Self-care practices can help boost immunity, increase happiness, and help with productivity.
Self-care options beyond the spa
Self-care is a way to replenish our physical, emotional, and spiritual energy so that we can conquer our goals. While face masks and bubble baths are things we immediately think of when we hear self-care, there are a multitude of options for you to check-in with yourself and give what your mind, body and spirit needs without a lot of time or money.
Here a few ideas to help get you started:
1. Connecting with family or friends - this looks different these days, but a quick text, voice note or even a social media DM can elevate our moods
2. Journaling – a reflection of what you’ve learned, accomplished or are grateful for to acknowledge the small and big wins
3. Saying no – to thoughts, people and appointments that drain you is an empowering reminder that you always have a choice
4. Doing nothing – an intentional pause from your endless to do list to mentally reset and get some perspective
5. Moving your body – a walk outside, stretching, or a YouTube video class are great ways to boost your mood
6. Taking deep breaths – deep inhales and exhales for a full minute can slow your heart rate, which can immediately reduce stress and anxiety levels helping you better focus on your tasks at hand
