Defining Holistic Leadership

Holistic Leadership is an integrated approach to maximizing your personal and professional potential. It empowers self-management, deepens your connection with others, and supports the preservation of sisterhood and community.

  • Our mindset is critical in not only how we see the world, but how we engage with it and the attitude that guides our decision making. Holistic leaders adopt a growth mindset and believe that they have the ability to learn, are a work in progress, and that challenge and failure create opportunities for growth. This enables them to see possibility where others may not and cope with change and uncertainty with greater resilience. A productive mindset considers:

    • What feedback have I received and how might it prove to enlighten my journey?

    • What does my inner critic say about me that holds me back?

    • What am I afraid of and what would it take to overcome it?

    • How do I move from “I can’t because” to “I can if?”

  • Personal ownership is about self-leadership and self-management. It enables us to come from a place of responsibility and to be an active participant in all aspects of our lives-career, well-being, wealth, relationships, etc. When we own our behaviors and how we show up in the world, we can more successfully achieve goals and cultivate productive habits while letting go of what no longer serves us. It helps us answer and act in alignment with these questions:

    • What gives me energy?

    • What values or sense of purpose do I need to further invest in?

    • How active am I in not just manifesting, but designing the future I want?

    • What do I need to do to better prepare myself to help others?

  • Key to being a holistic leader is the ability to lead by example and support a culture that nurtures connections and relationships with others. It is an essential part of the process because it aligns our purpose and intention to more than just individual goals and enables us to perpetuate a culture of inclusion, collective success and knowledge sharing. Community is key to building legacy- an important element that is required to anchor future growth. It challenges us to answer:

    • How do I serve and help others?

    • How am I helping to build a thriving community (in whatever way that resonates with me)?

    • What can I uniquely contribute to help those around me?

    • What relationships nourish me and which ones may benefit from greater boundaries?

Meet the Founder

I’m Melody, the founder and creative mind behind Lacuna. I have over 17 years of experience as a seasoned leadership coach, diversity and inclusion specialist, and corporate executive. I am thrilled to be able to expand my reach and be a part of this journey with you. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with talented individuals, at all levels, ranging from recent college graduates to C-suite executives. I witnessed diverse women stumble over invisible roadblocks and question the value of their contributions. When I sat across from them in boardrooms and coached them 1:1, I saw myself in them too. I quickly realized that there was an extraordinary opportunity to leverage my experience in a different way- to help build a community where women empowered women and found a way to have it all.

Despite my credentials, degrees and certifications, I still struggled with finding my own authentic voice while tightly managing how I showed up at home and in my personal life so I didn’t make others uncomfortable with my difference. I had not yet appreciated the impact that my experiences had on the stories I told myself. As a LatinX and Black woman there was a lot (and I mean a lot) to unpack but I did the work I needed to develop a responsible point of view. Finally, I asked myself a simple question: How am I going to save the world, and in turn, myself? It forced me to face my fear of failure and that tiny voice in my head that told me I just might not be good enough. But as I dug deep, I quickly realized that creating Lacuna gave me an opportunity to lead in all areas of my life; it was born out of my experiences, my failures and the defining moments that reminded me to operate from a place of authenticity and strength. I had discovered my super power and now Lacuna is the space I’ve carved out for a community of ambitious women to discover theirs and lead exceptionally- together.
